Leading Together is an INSEAD Alumni Association initiative supported by McKinsey & Company as a knowledge partner, promoting gender balance in business leadership. The initiative originates from Portugal, with a view to rolling out globally.
Gender diversity yields numerous benefits to organizations, including higher levels of creativity and innovation, greater customer satisfaction, better investment decisions and increased performance.
Our mission is threefold.
First we aim to inform. By presenting factual data on the proportion of men and women in top leadership positions, in order to expand awareness on the topic. By providing a simple tool for business leaders, journalists, students and other change agents.
By disclosing the latest research on why women are underrepresented at the top of corporations, and what business leaders can do to change that.
Secondly, we want to bring business leaders (male and female) to the center of the debate, to further drive change.
And thirdly, we want to celebrate the companies and business leaders that are already making significant progress in improving gender balance in top leadership.
Leading Together is largely a volunteer-run project.

The index reflects the average of a company’s female and male representation on the Boards and Executive Teams of all PSI-20 companies.
The Leading Together score is calculated on a 100 point-scale, by multiplying by 100 the average of the percentage of women on the Boards of Directors and the percentage of females on the Executive Teams.
A company’s Executive Team is defined by the Directors on the Board of Directors with executive functions.
Companies are ranked according to their score on the Index (from #1=highest gender balance to #18=lowest gender balance)
Leading Together index’s data was compiled using publicly available information published by the companies themselves, typically on investors relations webpages, annual reports or corporate governance webpages.
